How to Apply for a new PAN Card?

In India PAN is considered as a identification document. There are many holder of PAN who don’t file tax returns, but have this for identification.

Obtaining PAN is optional and voluntary like passport, driving license, Aadhaar etc. However, its use is mandatory at required places, like for high-value financial transactions.

The following person should apply for PAN           

  • Anybody who earns a taxable income in India, including foreign nationals who pay taxes here
  • Anybody who runs a business (be it retail, services or consultancy) that had total sales, turnover or gross receipt exceeding Rs 5 lakh in the previous financial year

 

Form 49A have to filed in case of Indian or 49AA in case of foreign citizen.

There are two ways to apply for a new PAN Card:-

 

Online Procedure

  • Fill online application,
  • Upload scanned supporting documents, photo/signature
  • Pay the application amount of Rs. 107
  • Track the status of your application online
  • PAN will be send to your place

 

Offline Procedure

  • Download form 49A from the given link
  • Fill the Form
  • Attest two recent Passport size photograph
  • Submit it to the nearest NSDL centre with the documents
  • Pay the required fees by using cash, cheque or demand draft.
  • Track the status of your application online

 

Following Documents is required to submit the Application

  • In case of Individuals and HUF
    • Documents accepted as Proof of Identity
      • Copy of Aadhar Card, Driving License, Voter ID Card, etc
      • Copy of passport, or
      • Copy of Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card issued by Government of India, or
      • Copy of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card issued by Government of India,
    • Documents accepted as Proof of Address
      • Proof of Identity documents mentioned the address of the applicant like electricity bill, telephone bill, water bill, utility bill etc.
      • Copy of Bank account statement in the country of residence, or
      • Copy of Non-resident External (NRE) bank account statement in India, or
      • Copy of Certificate of Residence in India or Residential permit issued by the State Police Authorities,

 

After this the Hard laminated copy of PAN will be sent to the registered address by the post in 15 days.
